life lately in 5
One: Poor Maysie got spayed and had her dew claws removed last week. The weekend was sad and hard when she wasn’t feeling well, but we are glad the hardest part is over and she’s on the mend.
She’s doing ok physically but her energy came back after 36 hours and it’s all we can do to keep her quiet. She has the cone through next Tuesday, so here’s hoping we can keep her healing and avoid too intense of cone bruises on our bodies, haha!
Two: Thanksgiving is a whole thing because Maysie is tall enough to get her head on the table and counters (cone and all), but I think we have a plan to manage. I’m trying to make it easy on myself and baking off homemade Italian rolls on Wednesday instead of trying to time their rise and bake with a turkey on Thursday. We are also baking Lil Momma’s request of Salted Caramel Chocolate Cookies and the Mr’s “pumpkin pie from the can” on Wednesday, too, to simplify what has to happen on the day itself.
Three: I have a MRI on my back and hip tomorrow. This all stems from the question around if my hip and back are messed up because of non-weight-bearing and gait issues from my surgery OR do I have an underlying disk or nerve issue that is having its moment in the sun. All I know is I dream of walking for more than 3 minutes without pain or working out without my lower back locking up and I’m ready to do the work to figure this out (Even if it means more PT.) (Please don’t let it mean more PT…)
Four: I’m well on my way to get through the last 24 books to see if I can hit my 100 book goal-ish this year and have a write up going to better share what I’m reading look for that next Monday!
Five: Everything’s been a lot lately. My aunt’s estate, work wildness, tween parenting, being a human in this world… I’m working on some routines to help myself settle in the moments I can and reconnect with what fills my cup - and, hopefully, share more here and comment more vs getting so stuck in my head.
I hope you all are having a good week! Here’s to deep breaths, good reads, and Maysie surviving this cone!

Poor Maisie! And poor everyone else in the house! I hope that Tuesday comes quickly!
ReplyDeleteDoggo is a pro at counter surfing. She's gotten very good at biding her time until we get distracted and then making her move. Everytime we think that we know all of her moves she learns new ones!
Poor Maisie! It reminds me of when Rex had his cone, what a giant disaster! I had bruises on my legs, things would be swept off the coffee table more than normal. We never had his dew claws removed and I wonder if I will regret that.
ReplyDeleteOoh poor Maisie! When my cat Ester (RIP) had hers done, they only gave me that thing (I don't even know what they're called in English!) but I was never able to put it on! So when she started being awake enough to be interested in the stitches, I was terrified! All went well thankfully and no cat bowels spread around the floor...
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear you have those hip and back problems! I'd imagine if it's due to being non-weightbearing for long it's mostly muscular and can be adjusted with the help of a physio? I certainly hope the MRI shows no spinal issues!
