her hair is full of secrets (or bats)

Life is life-ing. It’s all happening all the time. We are a week from Lil Momma’s 12th birthday. We are two weeks from school starting. This weekend is the Mr and my 20th anniversary. I’m so unprepared for all of this. But that is not my story for tonight.  I was taking Bella, our senior Morkie (Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier) out, something that’s only my job when the Mr is at dart night. It was dark, I was tired and sore from a long walking day in office, Bella was over it and just wanted her three treats I owed her once we got back in the house.  As we came up the deck stairs to head in through our sliding glass doors, my hair got caught on the branches of a hanging plant. Easily remedied, right?  NO! IT WASN’T! Why? Because THINGS FLEW OUT of the hanging plant and I felt them on my head. ON MY HEAD. Although I love the memes of how bats look like dancing emo goths, I am deeply afraid of bats getting caught in my hair (because it happened to me once).  I screamed...

friday five #2

Lil Momma and the Mr. are visiting family down south this week and I’ve been on my own with Bella, our dog. To be clear, they didn’t ditch me!! I’m just not walking fast or far enough for it not to be a drag or a liability on that type of vacation.   To be honest, LM and I were both a little shook - we’ve never been apart this long!! It’s one of those times I’m glad she has a way to text me and we got to talk each night about her adventures (which included dip dyeing the bottom 6 inches of her hair purple - an early birthday present!). In honor of my week here at the house by myself, here are 5 random Friday thoughts about being alone: One : I realized that I’m very rarely alone in a situation where I can just be. I’m alone in my car on my ride to work or driving back from dropping LM off somewhere, but this week was different because I could just exist in this space and be.  Two : Back when the Mr. traveled for work and LM was a baby on steroids who never slept, I alwa...

week in the life: a wednesday on vacation

Image
Today started off with an oof as the breakfast place we went to (and had gone to when LM was younger) is now a Mexican restaurant now. So much for nostalgia! We grabbed egg sandwiches from Dunks and headed to  Santa’s Village , this wild mix of holiday nostalgia, rides, Christmas music, and Scandinavian storefronts. The Mr. and Lil Momma love Christmas and rides, so this is a must on our New Hampshire vacations. While not as much my jam, I do very much love seeing how much they love it here. We got to ride the new rollercoaster, ate  gingerbread, and had a great time riding rides and humming random Christmas carols. I even pushed myself out of my comfort zone and tried out the Ferris wheel again after having a full on panic attack so bad they had to stop the ride 5 years ago. (True story.) On our way out, sigh, the Mr. had a text saying Bella (our 10 year old Morkie who is being boarded back home) may have a UTI, which sent me into a bit of a tizzy. We are headed home t...

highs and moderate lows v1

Image
Summer of 2021, I became a people leader at work (now that’s a story for another time), and in my desperation to be people-y, I started ending our late-week check-ins with “highs and moderate* lows”**of the week As we got to know each other and have more to talk about, H&MLs only pop up randomly, but I thought I’d resurrect them here.  moderate low .  I missed my walks this week (well, a more accurate statement is that I didn’t prioritize them enough). I am a significantly happier person when I move my body on a regular basis, and as someone on this awkward comeback from a neck/back/nerve/rotator cuff nightmare, I am also physically much happier when I move my body on a regular basis. It’s so easy to get caught up in work, or getting ready for the holidays, or just sitting down when there’s a moment of quiet, but I need to do the work on this next week high . I took the dog out at night in the cold and the rain, and she slipped her leash and started happily running aw...
