five for a Friday

One: It’s been a minute… well, a month. Everything’s been a lot and my mental bandwidth was in survival mode. On the other side, I have this wonderful realization that it’s important to be a person amongst all the tasks and am excited to come back here and to comment sections and be just that.

 

Two: Lil Momma has one more month of 7th grade. We can do this. She turns 13 in 2 months. It’s just wild.

 

Three: We just survived 3 straight weekends of dance competitions, 2 of which were at a high school with very little parking. She did so well across the comps in her team dances and solo, as well as being a good teammate and supportive presence, but I have to say I am incredibly glad to have 2 weekends off before recital June begins. A big personal win was being able to do these 3 comp weekends on my own and handle her and food and the hotels and all her props remembering that last year I attempted to do the 1st comp 2 weeks after my foot/ankle surgery and ended up having to call the Mr. to bring me a wheelchair and he ended up having to do all 3 pushing me around. What a difference a year makes…. 

 

Four: LM and I are planning out what we are calling our “Full Send Summer Strong” where we prioritize taking care of ourselves, building endurance and strength, and making some strong memories. We are doing baseline “tests” over this long weekend so we can measure progress!

 


Five: Today is Maysie’s first birthday! She is a true joy in our lives, 70 pounds of love and fun and frisbees. I can’t imagine what life would be like without her.

    Happy Birthday Maysie!!! I hope she got in some good play time with the frisbee. There was a while before Doggo's first birthday that the frisbee was her magic toy, the one that we could bring out and she would immediately stop whatever destructive puppy thing she was doing so that she could play with the frisbee.

    Is your semester over yet??????? I'm thinking that it must be.

    Maisie! She's so cute! She looks so much like Rex! Except wayyyyy smaller.
    I recall 7th grade as being a really low point in my life. That and fifth grade. Ai-yi-yi. I kind of think it's a low in most people's lives? In other words, it's all up from here!

Why would we get a dog right now? Honestly. Everything is wildly chaotic and I live in a constant state of overwhelm. The news this week has been so horrifying and that’s on top of the sad and awful it’s been. Why would we get a dog right now? We just survived the back to back of the Mr. and my 20th dating anniversary and Lil Momma’s 12 birthday. For our anniversary, we saw it was the year of “metal” and pulled the plug on buying new kitchen appliances (much needed), including our first working dishwasher and a fridge with water (with water!! So fancy!!) that arrive tomorrow. We have to take a cabinet down tonight somehow and then find a place for the fridge contents. I’m sourcing ice and coolers. ch- ch- changes

It’s hard to write when the world is on fire. My heart and my head are so heavy. Besides the general * gestures at everything *, January has been a month of churn and change here. So, I thought I’d share a new path I’m wandering down and then regroup and reframe for February. (I saw some FIGgy news headed that way…) So, what’s changing? Who’s changing? School started (for me) What’s that? It both feels so random and so right. As work became more and more uncertain and taxing and miserable last year, I started doing some thinking about my future. I’m almost 50, my child will be graduating in 5 years, and I’m in a moment of figuring out who I am outside of my job and caretaking and being injured…  I seem to be right in the right place to navigate a personal pivot, a third act with agency and purpose.  When I was a child, I wanted to be a librarian.   I am having one of   those work weeks that just beat you up . Vague asks that do n’t make sense, changing timelines and details, being behind the ball but not having any way to get ahead… Sigh, this is not when I shine. However, I had my personal pity party last night and am trying to let the stress go and do what I can do with what I have when I have it.   For this week, I wanted to ramble away about  Lil Momma’s audition for a special production class  at her musical theater school as it took up most of our energy last weekend:   Lil Momma went in strong on Saturday am and was so ready with her bit of song and good attitude.
