deck rambles #1
Hello from our deck on the first warm weekend day to really appreciate it! Nothing like a romance novel and a super soaker to prevent the squirrels from taking out my birdcam again to set the Saturday vibe!
Honestly, I’m sitting here like a plant soaking up some sun and avoiding my to do list. Lil Momma is running around the yard in socks, practicing her dance solo, and chattering away. The Mr is cleaning our gardens and making plans to take down a small tree that is allowed the squirrels to take out the antenna on our other birdcam a few weeks ago.
Last night we went and saw Alton Brown’s final tour in Boston. The Mr and I have seen every tour he’s done and his shows (television and live) have really been one of those constants in our almost 20 year relationship. Lil Momma joined us last night, which made me super happy to do something fun as a family before everything gets crazy. (Crazier)
In this very moment, she’s having her yearly realization that she loves being outside and is running around doing bubbles and cartwheels and singing songs. This always brings me so much joy and also a little guilt that we’ve had this sedentary, dinner-in-front-of-the-TV, too-much-life-happening to do more of this the past few years. As always, I’m making a yearly proclamation that we’re gonna have dinner on the deck and hang out and do things (even if I’m using a knee scooter or stuck in a chair).
The Mr and I are also pretty beat because we got up super early to be ready for my motorized recliner to be delivered that I’ll sleep in after my surgery and while I recover. They said it would be delivered between seven and 10am and we just thought that if we didn’t get up early and be overly ready for seven, it would be here at seven on the dot and we’d be disasters. Instead, they showed at 8:30 which worked out really well - and, now the month I have until surgery feels super real.
Tomorrow, Lil Momma and I are headed up to my aunt’s house to do the walk-through with the realtor and have a talk about strategy. I’m a little nervous that my surgery is going to mess up the timeline on all of this, but my agent has hope that it will all work out. Then we’ll come home and prep for the week.
Do you have some sunshine this weekend? Or, rambling thoughts? Or, both?!?
Lindsay!
ReplyDeleteOur NJ weather is WACKY! On Tuesday, 70s! Today, 40s. The kids have been outside the whole week. After school and before dinner. It’s been great, it tires them out, get them fresh air, and gives me a break. Sunshine? Yes, not today though. But last week-definitely.
Sending good vibes that things works out with your aunt’s house.

We have been like that, too! False Spring keeps giving me false hopes, sigh! PS: Google/Chrome/Safari won't let me comment on your blog but I have been reading along! I am sorry about your yoga studio and excited you found 3 pairs of jeans!!
DeleteOooohhhhh deck weather! That sounds like a pretty perfect Saturday. And I love your pledge to spend time on the deck come what may. It was cool and breezy today and I flung all the windows open to welcome in the spring air. I adore winter but I am ready for time outside!
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly where I am at! I love the different seasons, but I am so ready for spring to land fully (and for some sunshine)!
DeleteDon't beat yourself up over the "sedentary, dinner in front of the TV" stuff for one moment. You're leaving out the shows that Lil Mamma did and all of other epic events that crowded out dinner. That's me speaking as a Boy Scout Widow - it was made possible by all of the crappy, rushed dinners that I stressed myself out over way too much.
ReplyDeleteI had sunshine on Friday to kick off my three day weekend trip, and epic rain today! How did past me know to plan outside stuff for yesterday and a bourbon tour for this morning and a cave tour this afternoon? It's like I'm psychic or something.
I feel like the Universe was guiding your vacation itinerary and I am here for that!
DeleteThanks for the reminder about tv dinners - we are just always so busy and even just landing dinner at a common time feels like a win, haha! I have hopes for the summer and dinners on the deck, but I also know that sometimes we all need some time to just space out while in the same space.
Oh I love those first few days that are so mild and make you want to stay outside all the time! When is your surgery, Lindsay? Isn't that always the way with deliveries, or anything, when you are ready right on the button it never happens!
ReplyDeleteIt's 4 weeks from today, which feels pretty wild and also like it's taking forever. I'd so much rather get it over with at this point, haha!
DeleteI remember that feeling. Here in Florida it's kind of the opposite- the first cool, brisk day in fall is such a relief after the hot, stifling summer. But I know- spring up north is the best. The great thing is, even after your surgery you can sit out on the deck. It's not like you have to go anywhere or do anything special to enjoy being outside.
ReplyDeleteI think spending time outside in the sunshine will be a BALM to your soul while you're recovering. There is nothing like some vitamin D to boost one's spirits. Hooray for the motorized recliner and I hope these next few weeks pass quickly so you can get the hard part over with!
ReplyDeleteOh, sitting in the sun with a book is the BEST way to recover from surgery - trust me, I know! :) Plus, with your foot, you will be able to request that LM and the Mr. bring you things - what is not to like? (Also, you will probably hate that recliner by the time this is all over, so moving to different locations as you are able to do so will be a good thing!) I know it's coming up quickly now - thinking of you and all you are juggling, my friend. <3
