A handful of thoughts from the end of June chaos…
One Poor Lil Momma had a freak accident last weekend, but luckily it was more annoying than painful. Saturday night, she was headed upstairs to get ready for bed and remembers hitting her palm on the railing - but not hard enough to say anything (and she would say something, haha!). When I came up to hang with her, I noticed her ring finger was bent down and asked her about it. We quickly realized she couldn’t raise it without her other hand or assistance. Strangely, I didn’t even have to ask Dr Google what it was (although I’ve googled a lot since haha!): When LM was a toddler, she randomly developed “tr!gger finger” in her thumb that had to be released via surgery; here’s hoping this one will have some other options. A trip to Urgent Care left her with a splint and an appointment at the orthopedic surgeon’s next week…
Two …which leads us to the camp she was supposed to attend this week and next saying she couldn’t come until after she sees the ortho. I get it. I do. Plus, she would have been miserable in the heat with the splint. But, having her home while we worked put way too much stress on our “summer rules” for movement and screen time and the whole plan fell apart by Thursday. Not the smoothest start to summer, but we are reframing and rewriting plans!
Three It’s dance recital weekend! Tomorrow we have an 8 hour rehearsal since LM is in both recitals and Sunday we have the shows. I think we have the right snacks and lunches for these long days, but the Mr and I are both worried about all of our energy (and patience) levels after a long week
Four I had some huge wins (and a baby steps) with my ankle and foot this week! At PT on Tuesday, I moved up to standing barefoot (no boot!) for toe yoga and arch doming. I stood on my own feet!! My foot didn’t crumble! My ankle held! LM was so excited that she had me take 3 steps barefoot before bed (holding on to her) and it was such a moment of joy and a glimmer for what’s to come. Today, I got to warm up on the recumbent bike! I love tangible progress!
Five My Memories app reminded me that it was a year ago today that I ended up in my original walking boot for my arch problem. A year!! A YEAR!!! It’s just wild that I’m in a different boot and still not fully doing things - and, it’s awesome to know what was wrong and that this surgery has helped. My PT today even said I already have so much more range of motion than I had before.
Did you get hit with the heat wave this week? Our ac died for 24 hours and I showed up on some video calls with questionable hair haha!
Three barefoot steps forward!!! This is huge. Just wait until next year's update on your memories app.
ReplyDeleteI think everyone has movement and screen time goals for their kids at home in the summer, and if yours lasted until Thursday you are ahead of most of us. Plus that includes a day of no AC!
It's been so hot here that there was a day when Doggo just refused to go outside during the day. No harm done, but it was very much outside of her norm.
Hooray!!!! It must feel fantastic to be making such great progress!
ReplyDeleteMy summer plans have completely fallen apart. Have we done math, reading, and movement every day? No, we have not. Have we even done those things MOST days, or perhaps ANY days? No again. SIGH. Summer is hard.
SO HOT here. I cannot step outside without turning into a puddle. So gross.
I hope LM's injury gets addressed quickly and smoothly at the orthopedist!
Standing on your own feet! What a win indeed! That is very exciting, Lindsay!
ReplyDeleteHoo boy, that is kind of a rough start to summer. My husband has trigger finger but it's not terrible for him, he just has to wear a support while sleeping and generally he's okay. He has had his finger "stick" for several days, though.
I've never heard of trigger finger before. Poor girl. And that is a tough entry into summer :(
ReplyDeleteBut that's wonderful news about slow and steady progress with your foot. I know the healing part has taken longer than you expected (and hoped) but I feel confident this time next year you'll look back on summer 2025 as feeling far in the distant past as you are moving so easily and strongly.
It must feel so good (and also so weird) to be able to step down without the boot. Yes, you've been dealing with this for a long time!
ReplyDeletePoor LM. I've had trigger finger in both thumbs (not at the same time, luckily). Both times I just waited it out, but it took a long time. I know the surgery is very successful, so if she has to go that route, it should get it resolved quickly.
I'm commenting late, so by now the dance recital is over. I hope it went well and that the adults survived the weekend!
