friday figures v3
5 things that bring me joy when work is stressful
One a midday Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup break
Two Lil Momma helping me pick out my work shirt + cardigan/blazer combo
Three dance breaks before I go video on for a presentation
Four Lil Momma coming in to my office on my work from home days for a “fit check”
Five the cold air hitting my face as I walk into the parking garage to leave
Three things I’m enjoying this week
One Lil Momma’s first school chorus concert! They were so cute! At the in school one she wore her ridiculous fanny pack/pocketbook, but she looked so grown up in her white and black concert attire for the parent concert (and we got another wear out of our desperation buys from her holiday show!)
Two The Mr. and I have been watching Expedition Unknown on Discovery from the beginning and it’s been fun learning little bits of history before bed after decades of watching cooking / baking shows and ending up sleeping hungry
Three It was SUNNY a couple of times! Such a boost to my mood. These January blahs are getting me a little. (Of course, I write this as it rains with more rain next week…) (And, I know I should be glad it isn’t snow.) (But, all the dreary is oof)
One SAVE / STEAL from the week
When the Mr. and I cleaned out my mom’s assisted living apartment/room back in December, there was just so much stuff we didn’t know what to do with, including her brand new wheelchair that she only used for a week (sigh). The short term rehab had somehow coordinated it when they were moving her from there back to the assisted living, so I never saw the paperwork or did anything – a gift at the time for sure! All her nurses and the staff were dropping by when we were going through things and offering to help (they were so good!) and I ended up giving them the wheelchair to use there because why would I need it? It felt good both to get rid of it and know it was going to be used by someone who needed it. (Medical equipment is so expensive – another tale for another time – and we tried to donate everything we could to our local Senior Center and other places they’d be of use.)
Cut to 6 weeks later when I get a series of phone calls while I am working (no surprise, I never answer my phone unless it’s the Mr. or the school). When I checked my voicemail, I was horrified to see that it was the wheelchair RENTAL company asking when they could pick up the wheelchair as all my mom’s paperwork and notifications get processed. >>INSERT EMOTIONAL SPIRAL!!<< After I unfroze, I sent the Mr. a screenshot of the voicemail transcription to get him thinking about what we could do… …but they kept calling. 12 calls in 24 hours?!?! I am so lucky the Mr. knows of how much I hate phone calls and offered to call the assisted living and track down the wheelchair AND call the wheelchair rental company to tell them to go pick it up there. (My plan was to pay off the wheelchair to the rental company and try and forget any of this ever happened, haha, sigh…)
So, that is the story about how I tried to do something nice, but ended up taking a wheelchair from someone who needed one 😝
Hope your week figured out in your favor! Have you had sun lately?
Yay for a midday Reese's break...or an anytime Reese's break. Also yay to the Mr for taking on the wheel chair debacle. Hey we all try to do nice things, and we've all tried to do nice things that didn't go according to plan.
ReplyDeleteWe've had no sun but it's warm again so I will take it!
I was so take a bit of warm at this point, even! At this point of the year, I consider anything above 35* warm - I'd just like the option to walk outside or take my kid to explore something on the weekends, but we can't risk her slipping on ice or getting sick from the temperature changes with all her commitments...
DeleteI know it's kind of dark, but I'm laughing at the wheelchair story. I mean, it's not funny (but it kind of is.)
ReplyDeleteUgh, I remember that January gloom SO WELL. As much as we've been complaining about our "cloudy" January here, it's nothing like it is up north. And we've had the sun come out these last couple days- which unfortunately corresponded with warmer temps and humidity. You just can't win (but I'll take this over a winter up north.)
We are laughing at the wheelchair story, too, I promise! THAT wasn't even on my list of things that could go wrong with all this, HAHA!
DeleteSUN? What sun?? Here in NJ, doom and gloom! The wheel chair story is funny (I'm sorry). And those concerts, so, so cute!!
ReplyDeleteDreary and weary, I hear you!
DeleteWhen my father died, he had just rented a walker. And as we were making a list of things that needed to get done, my sister said, "well, we have to take that walker back" and I knew everything was going to be okay. That's all. That's my story about medical equipment.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that story about medical equipment <3 honestly, knowing what to do with something (even small somethings) in a hard moment is a gift.
DeleteDance break before video calls? Genius.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am sorry you had to track down the wheelchair after you had made a generous donation. Eek.
San, you have to try it! Especially before meetings you dread (or is that just me?!) - it's a game changer!
DeleteOh man! The story about the rented wheelchair. You tried your best! I'm glad the Mr. took the reins on handling that for you!
ReplyDeleteSo grateful to him and so glad it's over, haha!
DeleteHonest to pete, i wish I had the chance to meet Lil Momma (and you).
ReplyDeleteAnd I suspect the rental company has heard it ALL. Your mortification is probably the outlier reaction! Most people would probably shrug, block their number (seriously calling q2 hours about a RENTED W/C???), and go on with their lives. I'd be fretting about Medicare coming after me, though, so I'd be in your camp. ;) Glad the Mr. picked up the baton.
Someday, my friend! My girl sure is a trip (in more ways than one haha)! I work in health insurance and all I could picture was both the rental company and Medicare and more starting to call me which was enough to get me to ask for help, sigh....
