ten thoughts from a snow day

Some thoughts from a February snow day for my girl and work from home day for me and her dad

One

“Why is Lil Momma up so early when we didn’t have to get up?”

Two

“Is my hair too wild for video calls or can I hide it with my headset?”

Three

“Thank goodness cinnamon toast felt fancy enough.”

Four

“I am so glad the Mr and I aren’t doing Valentines because I didn’t get anything.”

Five

“So much for checking my technology for that big meeting tomorrow.”

Six

“Yay for friends who take my girl sledding.”

Seven

“I will give myself grace for having the Mr get himself a card from Lil Momma since I thought we weren’t doing Valentines.”

Eight

“I don’t know why I am so exhausted at 4pm.”

Nine

“I only have until Friday to finish one of my library books and I am not enjoying reading it but I have to finish it for a challenge”

Ten

“I am so glad we can have family dinner and a cozy night and early bedtime.”

The storm was less than expected, so we only had 5 inches of the wet, soggy fluff to clear.

Do you ever track your random thoughts? Maybe this is why my line-a-day journal reads so disconnectedly, haha!

  1. Oh God- I don't want to track my random thoughts! It would be scary. Sounds like a fun snow day (rather than the kind where you might lose power and have 20 inches of snow to shovel.)
My husband and I aren't doing anything for Valentine's Day either (well- we may get takeout so I don't have to cook) but I got my daughter something. She's a little sad because "no one will ask me to be their Valentine." Ah, teen years! Ugh.

    1. Oh, the teen years - that hurt my heart! It's so hard when these holidays are so public and performative; school is hard enough!

  2. I love these sort of posts! LOVE them! Random thoughts are just so fun.

I wasn't going to get my kids anything for Valentine's but caved in the end. I got them each a pack of gum, a chocolate treat, and one little item they'll like and actually use (a $4 jade roller for my tween who is suddenly VERY in to face care) and a $4 pack of Pokemon for my son. Done. I kinda hate all the disposable junk that gets exchanged in their classes, so I wanted consumables only!
My husband is away for Valentine's Day (again, this seems to happen every year), but I don't feel sad in the slightest. I feel like we show our love all year round and Valentine's can feel like a commercialized money grab? I celebrate our love at Valentine's but in understated ways? But I love that the kids enjoy the special events at school and I'm actually very contented that I don't feel the need to buy all sorts of things? Or maybe I'm just a Scrooge? But a very happy in-love-with-my-spouse Scrooge!
Who is all over the place now?!

    1. I love how all over the place this comment is! Lil Momma got me succulents that she thought were real but turned out to be fake and it became a whole THING, haha! But we have rallied and she still loves love... I more use the date to remind the Mr that it's my tempiversary at work and if I hadn't taken that temp job, I would never have met him and we'd never have this whole life together, haha!

  3. My whole life is a random thought! I might make cookies today for Valentine's, but we don't really do anything romantic for it. I'm having a Galentine's party on the weekend, though, so that will be fun!

    1. Oh yay for Galentine's! "It's like the Lilith Fair, minus the angst!"

  4. DNF that book! Life is too short for reading things that don't resonate with you!

Random thought: I hope the dealership doesn't take too long with my car so I have time to go to Sephora. I'd LOVE a leisurely trip to a makeup store.

    1. I totally DNF-ed it. There has to be a book about pirates that doesn't make me dread reading, haha! I hope you made it to Sephora - that sounds so fun!

  5. I don't track random thoughts but I should try! We gave unicorn tattoos (L's classes) and transformer cards (R's preschool). T and I exchanged cards and chocolates yum!

    1. Yay for cards and chocolates! Lil Momma got me a bunch of Reese's hearts, although I think she has snuck more than I've eaten, haha!

  6. The tracking of random thoughts is delightful. I feel like I should track my random thoughts because once in a while it's something like, "I wonder if I paid the gas bill this month," and then I forget to return to that thought and then turns out I didn't and then I get an angry letter.
Cinnamon toast! Such an underrated pleasure.

    1. Oh, that is such a good thought about random thoughts; I bet I could do that on my Notes app and forget so much less, haha! Cinnamon toast is up there with my all time favorite foods; couple it with something salty and a cup of tea (or a Diet Coke if I dared) and I'm a happy lady!

  7. I need to do something like this! Sometimes I think about doing a post about all my anxiety thoughts throughout a day/week, haha. I just have SO many random thoughts throughout the day - it would be so hard to keep track!

    1. Oh, it would be my longest post ever if I did all my anxiety thoughts, haha sigh.... But it might be interesting to see trends or waves of how they flow. I wouldn't get anything else done!

  8. OMG, Stephany's comments. Can you IMAGINE? Mine would be so long it would never end... That's the problem with ruminating. It just goes on and on and on...
I will say, my evening "journal" entries are most often stream-of-consciousness, and the things I talk about, and in what order, make NO SENSE. I know it's my brain just dumping out information, but still. You'd think I'd at least focus on one topic. Nope. It's fascinating to look back!
