-ber months and -brr months and grr months
I’m a -ber month person! September, October, and November are my favorites – and even our recent unseasonably less frigid Decembers can be added now. Walks in the woods! Bike rides to peep leaves! Hiking when it’s not ridiculously hot!
Usually, it’s the brr months that get me down; January – March can be pretty miserable, all dark and cold and wet. I have to motivate myself to get out and be present in the chill.
But this year in the prime -ber months, I am just grrr.
When I hurt my right arch back in May, I thought I’d be out of the slogging (slow jogging) game for a few weeks but back on track by the time school got out.
When I hurt my left arch in August because of the inserts I got because of the misguided post-walking boot instructions from the podiatrist, I figured it would be sore for a few weeks, but I’d be back on track by the time school started.
When my right ankle began to swell in October during and after PT appointments and I realized I may have torn my peroneal tendon, I kind of gave up on reframing for a bit…
I’m so annoyed that I’m still hurt and unable to go on walks or do cardio or not wonder if I’m hurting myself worse. I feel literally and figuratively stuck. All valid.
AND (not but), also not all true. There are ways to enjoy fall that don’t solely rely on me moving in some form with leaves.
My hopes for November are twofold:
- Find some fall fun that is accessible to me right now: Read on my deck with a fun coffee! Use one of my days off to go drive somewhere with pretty trees and stop by a bookstore or bakery. Go get some sunshine when it’s out.
- Figure out some movement I can do: Maybe it’s seated upper body and hip mobility. Maybe it’s core on the floor. Who knows? But it will be good to have some options until I get better guidance after the MRI-I’m-supposed-to-have-if-it-ever-gets-approved.
Here’s to finding new perspectives (even when we don’t want to), haha!
What is your favorite time of year? Do you follow fall outdoor fun with fun drinks or snacks? I love a fun coffee or fresh baked donut or scone after a hike or a ride.
I am so sorry you're still not able to move as you wish... I mean, a hike followed by hot coffee and a scone just sounds delightful right now. At least you can sit outside and enjoy the latter, I hope!
ReplyDeleteArghhh...no...no...no...that you're still struggling with the injuries and can't be living your best -ber life right now. I'm so sorry.
ReplyDeleteBut yes to going for that drive and getting to see all of the lovelies that way. This time will pass and you will be walking and running again!
You have so many reasons to grrr; it's so frustrating how certain seasons of life seem mired in endless challenges. Gold stars for looking for some Happy Things in the midst of various woes. May the future be bright and pain free!
ReplyDeleteFall is, by a LARGE margin, my absolute favourite time of year. If I could live in a world that ran Sept 1 - October 30th, I would be in a magic kingdom. I love the sunshine, crisp mornings, fall foliage. I don't think I would ever tire of this weather?!
YES! Mat workouts are the answer! When I broke my leg a long time ago, I did so much work on the mat and I think it helped my recovery go faster. I mean, I was also going stir crazy not being mobile!
ReplyDeleteLindsay, I'm SO sorry. Not being able to walk comfortably is very depressing, and it affects all aspects of life. That said- I think you're on the right track when you say you want to find SOMETHING you can do. We have to keep moving. I really hope you get some answers soon- this truly sucks.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear that your leg is still bothering you... Hugs from NJ.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite time of year is fall and we (I) go all out. We decorate a lot of Halloween but after it's over, we put that decor away and usually just have a fall leaves garland.
The kids and I like to go to the reservation on those beautiful, sunny, fall days, with a small cooler filled with food. Think little yoghurts, crackers, salami, apples, chocolate. And have a picnic. So wonderful, I love it. This year I bought pumpkin spice (powder) and been sprinkling a very tiny bit on top of my coffee each morning.
That is so frustrating! I would be so annoyed to still be dealing with this injury, especially not being able to go for walks. I’m sorry, friend. I hope you can find some workout routines that will work for you and you can enjoy the -ber months!
