25 for 25
To use one of Lil Momma’s newly favorite words, I’m so confuzzled by goals. I love lists. I love crossing things off lists. I love doing things. I love ideas and hopes and dreams. However, I’ve also had a lot of life pull focus these last few years - as life does - which has been a bit demotivating in terms of personal goals.
That being said, I have had some recent reflections that remind me that working on the balance between what I need to feel like myself and take care of myself with all of this other “stuff” is valid.
In that spirit, I leaned into the chaos listmaker I am in my heart of hearts and pulled together this 25 hopes for myself for 2025. Some are small and silly, others sizable and specific - but, most importantly, all are doable:
1 go on a family vacation somewhere new
2 get through estate planning
3 redo my office
4 read 100 books
5 enter 3 writing competitions
6 reach out to 3 friends I haven’t lately
7 hang pictures on our walls
8 stretch most days
9 cut phone screen time by 50%
10 ride 800 miles (bike, spin, doesn’t matter)
11 bake 5 new recipes
12 monthly dates with the Mr
13 walk outside (if I can) (tbd)
14 quarterly shouldless day
15 send 25 postcards
16 volunteer 5x
17 monthly girls day with Lil Momma
18 complete 150 strength workouts
19 eat real food on my in office days
20 take 50 selfies
21 try tuna
22 see 4 movies in the theater
23 go swimming once
24 figure out picture storage
25 average 15 servings of vegetables / week
I have a little weekly planner to track the trackable and hope to do updates here throughout the year as I work through some.
Are you a categorical goal setter, random like me, or a no goals type?
This sentence really resonates with me: "I’ve also had a lot of life pull focus these last few years - as life does - which has been a bit demotivating in terms of personal goals." Like you, I love lists and goals but I have been so down on myself for not achieving things when life gets in the way... so I am continuing to take a break from setting real goals, even though I want some accountability. Ugh. It's frustrating.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your list of goals. Such a great mix of personal/health/family objectives.
When you say "try tuna" do you mean tunafish salad, or tuna sushi or tuna steak... or does it matter?
I have never had tuna fish nor any sort of non-sushi tuna... I have a list of foods I haven't tried that I've been working at for 15 years, haha! Having texture issues is a whole thing, haha!
DeleteWow what a good variety of goals! I like these kinds of goals (also curious about the "try tuna" goal). I am more of a daily goal person, I guess? I don't really set many annual goals, maybe just one or two (current goal: get novel ready for beta readers).
ReplyDeleteFrom reading your blog, I feel like you have such solid and value add routines, Nicole - I still carry REM Y REM in my heart since you shared that!!
DeletePS: "beta readers" sounds so legit - I am so excited for you and can't wait to hear more about your novel!!
DeleteI like this list! Especially the writing competition - good luck and I'd love to hear more about it.
ReplyDeleteI think I have to be Team No Goals for right now. My work life is just too chaotic. Oh wait I have a goal for that - stop working in 2025!!! Stay tuned!!!
Um, that is a huge and amazing goal (and #goals to be honest)!
DeleteI have done a few writing challenges through NYC Midnight that reminded me of the writer I was before life got so loud. I'm hoping to find some others that aren't so deadline driven (the ones I've done have been "write X words about this specific thing in 48 hours) and see what I could do if I put some time and thought into it!
I agree - this is such a great range of goals that all feel doable, but also exciting and fresh.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I wanted to lead with "fun" this year :)
DeleteTRY TUNA!! I have tuna almost every day for lunch. What a hilarious goal!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why I have such a fish issue, it drives the Mr. crazy haha! And, tuna fish with the mayo/ greek yogurt / creamy component just feels like a lot. Oh, and people put in celery? Celery is like a nightmare for me... I am not talking myself out of tuna fish, though. I WILL TRY THIS THIS YEAR! But, not right now haha!
DeleteI like how you call this a list of 25 "hopes." They all sound great, and do-able. And I like how a lot of them are fun things. 100 books! If you read 100 books I'll be very impressed.
ReplyDeleteto be honest, so will I! But, my reading has gone up so much since I put app blocks on my phone so maybe it's achievable? We will see...
DeleteI love this list of goals so much! So many doable but really fun goals. I *love* the 50 selfies goals. I might steal that one for myself.
ReplyDeleteMan, I don't love fish but I love tuna. I usually just eat it mixed with mayo but sometimes I get fancy and will add cucumber/pickles/celery. I can't wait for your tuna journey!
let your readers know what you think of tuna!! :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, how are you tracking them? Where? I have some intentions for 2025 but struggling to remember to track every.little.thing. But-it's important to me!
I guess I am random, similar to you...
here is what I'm aiming for:
reduce phone time (right now I am averaging about 2-3 hours per day with phone use and it’s bothering me, a lot).
read more physical books, less Kindle
continue writing and blogging
have a weekly family meeting where we talk about the upcoming week (stolen from SHU)
Lift 2x per week for 20 min each session
continue yoga 3x per week
continue 1 on 1 time with L and R
try a few new recipes (somehow, elevate my cooking and venture out from the familiar chili and roasted chicken territory)
100 days no wine January 1- April 11th
Continue going to see live theater shows
Date nights – monthly, try some new restaurants/activities
Take a road trip in the US
Take a camping trip
Take an international trip
